Breast Augmentation with Implants
Performed in Atlanta, GA by Dr. John L. LeRoy.
Dr. LeRoy performs breast augmentation surgery (also known as breast enhancement) to help patients add volume, fullness, and improve the shape of their breasts. When performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. LeRoy, breast augmentation can be an excellent way for women to achieve a new, rejuvenated breast contour and improve their overall confidence in their appearance.
Good candidates for breast augmentation include women who:
- Are unhappy with their current breast size
- Have experienced reduction in breast size/volume after pregnancy or weight loss
- Desire a correction of breast asymmetry
Breast augmentation is one of the most consistently in-demand plastic surgery procedures in the US due to its effectiveness and dependability for women trying to increase their breast size. In many cases, it is performed together with a breast lift surgery to help improve the positioning of the breasts as well. It can also be performed as part of a mommy makeover.
The Procedure
Breast enlargement surgery typically begins with an incision made in the underside of the breast, around the areola (the darker area surrounding the nipple), or the armpit. Breast implants are then inserted. Whether the implants are inserted above or beneath the chest muscle will depend on what is deemed best for each patient at their consultation. Once the implants are in place, Dr. LeRoy will close the incisions, working diligently to make any scarring from the procedure as minimal and easy to conceal as possible. The entire surgery usually takes about one to two hours under general anesthesia, and can be performed as an outpatient procedure.
Breast Implants
Breast implants come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and materials. At your initial consultation with Dr. LeRoy, he will show you examples of different breast implants (saline and silicone) and discuss your ultimate goals with you to determine the best implants for your needs. With so many options available, it’s important to take your time, consider all the factors, and not rush into a decision.
Recovery After Breast Augmentation
Patients can expect some discomfort in their breasts and surrounding chest area for several days following the procedure. Some degree of post-surgery swelling, bruising, and numbness in the breasts and/or nipples can also be expected, but this should fade in the ensuing days and weeks. Patients are typically able to return to their normal daily routines like work within five to seven days after undergoing breast augmentation. Direct stimulation to the breasts and strenuous exercise should be avoided for the first three to four weeks after the procedure.
