Liposuction
Performed in Atlanta, GA by Dr. John L. LeRoy.
Sometimes, we just can’t get rid of stubborn excess fat in some areas of our body, no matter how much we diet and exercise. Liposuction can change that. Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the US, and can be extremely effective at getting rid of fat pockets that can accumulate on virtually any area of the body. Dr. John L. LeRoy offers a range of liposuction techniques at our Atlanta, Georgia practice. While it is not meant to be a replacement for diet and exercise, the procedure can address small areas of unwanted fat that have not responded to a healthy lifestyle. Liposuction can be performed on just about every area of the body, including:
- Arms
- Legs
- Abdomen
- Love Handles (Flanks)
- Thighs
- Hips
- Back
- Buttocks
What is Liposuction? – “Liposuction was invented over 30 years ago and the procedure has gotten better and better as time has gone by.”
The Procedure
Liposuction surgery utilizes a narrow tube (cannula) to break down fat deposits in the area targeted for treatment. The fat cells are then gently suctioned out of the body, leading to new contours and a slimmer appearance.
For patients who have especially small pockets of fat to be removed, Dr. John L. LeRoy also offers his signature Band-Aid Liposuction procedure. This treatment is performed in-office with gentle numbing, allowing for a quicker procedure and less recovery time.
The Benefits of Liposuction – “The benefit of liposuction is that you have done your diet, you have done your exercise and you have come in to polish that off and liposuction will remove that fat.”
Frequently Asked Questions about Liposuction
Can liposuction help patients who have overly large breasts?
Liposuction can be helpful for some patients who desire breast reduction by taking away extra fat in the breasts and reducing some of the discomfort and self-consciousness of having overly large breasts. However, because many breast reduction patients also need excess skin to be removed in order to reach their desired results, the details of each patient’s procedure will be discussed in a personal consultation.
How much scarring can I expect after my liposuction procedure?
Any surgical procedure will cause scarring. However, because liposuction removes the unwanted fat through a very narrow tube, the incisions required are very small. When possible, Dr. LeRoy also places the incisions in areas where they will be concealed within the natural creases and contours of the body.
Can liposuction improve the appearance of lax excess skin?
Liposuction was developed to focus solely on fat removal and does not make skin tighter. However, other procedures like a tummy tuck or arm lift can be performed in conjunction with liposuction, creating more comprehensive results that minimize excess skin, unwanted fat, and, in some cases, stretched and separated muscles.
