The Procedure
Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammaplasty, typically begins with an incision made around the areola (the dark-pigmented area surrounding the nipple), down to the crease of the breast, and then horizontally to form an anchor shape. Excess fat and tissue is removed, and the nipples are repositioned to a higher location. The size of the breasts should then be decreased to create an appearance that is better proportioned to your body frame.
Dr. LeRoy can perform a breast reduction procedure on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Surgery typically takes about two to four hours to complete.
Patients can expect some degree of swelling and discomfort during recovery; however, this can be alleviated with medication. Dr. LeRoy will work to minimize the appearance of scarring from the procedure. If you are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed in the future, you should discuss this with Dr. LeRoy during your initial consultation.
Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Treatment)
Gynecomastia is a condition that often begins in adolescence and causes men to develop excess fat and/or glandular tissue in the breasts. It can cause severe self-consciousness and even depression. Male breast reduction surgery from Dr. John L. LeRoy can reduce the excess fat and tissue in the breasts and give the chest a more contoured masculine appearance. During the procedure, Dr. LeRoy will remove glandular tissue and if necessary excess skin and fat are removed the skin will tighten. Cases of gynecomastia are unique in each patient, so you should discuss treatment options during a consultation with Dr. LeRoy to determine the best option for your needs.
