Summer vacations are a welcome change for most of us; however, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are not. From July 30th through August 13th, patients can save up to $300 on Restylane® treatment with Dr. John LeRoy by purchasing treatment discount vouchers on giltcity.com.
A website that provides up to 75% off luxury goods and services to consumers in many major metropolitan areas, Gilt City is making Restylane® their next deal for Atlanta facial rejuvenation patients. During the dates mentioned above, Gilt City members can log on to the site and purchase $49 vouchers (good for $100 of treatment credit) or $149 vouchers (good for $300 of Restylane® treatment credit).
Once you’ve purchase your desired vouchers, all you have to do is receive your Restylane® treatment before September 30th and receive your discount at the time of check out. Those patients redeeming $100 credit vouchers must receive at least 1mL of Restylane®, but no more than 3mL. Patients redeeming $300 credit vouchers must receive 2mLs of Restylane®, but no more than 6mL during treatment. Only 3 vouchers may be used towards a single treatment purchase.
Restylane® is a highly popular injectable gel that can replump areas of lost volume and fill deep wrinkles around the mouth and nose (nasolabial folds). Restylane® treatment consists of a few very short injections. The average treatment time is typically 10-15 minutes and most patients report noticeable facial rejuvenation for six to nine months following the procedure.
For many women, that stubborn “pooch” on the lower abdomen can be a major cosmetic concern. Despite overall good health, regular exercise, and a healthy diet, that small amount of excess fat and lax skin just can’t be eliminated. If this sounds like your problem area, then you may be an appropriate candidate for Band Aid Tummy Tuck. Like Dr. LeRoy’s other original Band Aid plastic surgery procedures, Band Aid Tummy Tuck is performed in-office using gentle numbing and is designed to address very small, isolated areas of cosmetic concern.
While the convenience of a Band Aid Tummy Tuck may sound appealing, it’s important to realize that just as with any other surgical procedure, patients need to possess certain physical attributes and maintain realistic cosmetic expectations to be deemed good candidates for this minimally invasive plastic surgery procedure. As we’ve written before, the area of the abdomen is a tricky one.
For many women who have had children, mini abdominoplasty or Band Aid Tummy Tuck may not be effective in producing the tummy tuck results they’re after because it may be a muscular issue. During pregnancy and childbirth it’s not uncommon for the abdominal muscles to become stretched or even detached from their proper position along the abdominal wall. To remedy this condition, traditional abdominoplasty by itself or as part of mommy makeover surgery is necessary to properly reattach the muscle and tighten the excess skin contributing to the unwanted pooching appearance.
During Band Aid Tummy Tuck surgery, Dr. LeRoy removes small amounts of excess tissue and refines the contour of the abdomen with liposuction. Appropriate Band Aid Tummy Tuck patients are within 5-10 pounds of their ideal body weight with excess fat deposits and/or mild to moderately sagging skin confined to the area of the lower abdomen. To determine if you are a more appropriate candidate for traditional or Band Aid tummy tuck, schedule your consultation by contacting our office.

With over 7 million non-surgical cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. during 2011 alone, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), it’s easy to surmise that minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are still very popular. Due to a variety of factors like convenience and affordability, skin treatments like laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, specialized anti-aging skin care products, and microdermabrasion are everywhere.
Just as it’s important to do your research before a prospective plastic surgery procedure, it is also important to do your research and receive a proper aesthetic consultation before pursuing a non-surgical skin treatment. To make the research process a bit easier, Dr. LeRoy has summarized two of the most popular anti-aging skin treatments below: microdermabrasion and Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing:
Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing
Treatment Description: After gentle numbing is administered, Dr. LeRoy uses the hand held device to topically emit tiny beams of fractionated laser light (DOT laser) to the skin to create tiny wounds that induce the body’s wound-healing response to produce new, younger-looking skin cells. Most patients equate the sensation of the treatment to short, snapping bursts of energy.
Treatment time: 45 minutes – 1 hour
Treatment area: The DOT laser technology used in Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing can be applied to any area of exposed skin on the body; however, most patients pursue the treatment for its ability to eliminate unsightly cosmetic issues on the face and neck.
Expected downtime: 7-14 days for any redness to subside and healthy skin to regenerate
Issues Addressed: hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, mild to moderate wrinkling, lax facial skin, hypopigmentation, skin tone irregularities, skin texture irregularities
Result visibility: Immediate skin tightening is often reported by laser resurfacing patients. Because this treatment works internally to gradually stimulate collagen production, full cosmetic results are typically seen 2-3 months following the procedure.
Microdermabrasion:
Treatment Description: During microdermabrasion, a mechanized exfoliation wand moves round crystals across cleansed skin to exfoliate dead, dull outer layers of surface skin.
Treatment time: 30 minutes – 1 hour
Expected downtime: 0-1 day for any mild flushing associated with exfoliation to subside.
Issues Addressed: mildhyperpigmentation, active acne, mild scarring, mild wrinkling, and skin texture irregularities.
Result visibility: Microdermabrasion will produce noticeably smoother skin after just one treatment. With repeated treatments, patients will notice a reduction in clogged pores contributing to acne, a reduction in pore size, and overall improvement in skin texture.
Both microdermabrasion and Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing are appropriate for patients who have not undergone facial plastic surgery as well as those who have previously undergone cosmetic enhancement and are looking to rejuvenate their results. We are all tempted by products of convenience. Like a combination shampoo and conditioner, anything that saves us time and money innately rises to the top of our wish lists. According to a new study published in Health Day however, combination plastic and non-cosmetic surgeries should not be one of them.
According to the study, those women who opted to receive a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), surgical excision of loose abdominal skin and the reattachment of muscles stretched by dramatic weight loss or pregnancy, at the same time that they underwent a hysterectomy developed surgical complications 32% of the time. While this is not the majority of patients, Dr. Sherrell Aston from the prestigious Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital states, “Any procedure that carries a 32 percent complication rate should be re-evaluated.”
As an Atlanta cosmetic and plastic surgeon with twenty years of plastic surgery experience, Dr. John LeRoy emphasizes the need for prospective patients to use due caution when contemplating a combination surgical procedure. There are several combinations of cosmetic surgery procedures including mommy makeover surgery and post bariatric plastic surgery with a time-tested record of providing successful plastic surgery results without exposing patients to dramatically increased surgical risks. Mommy makeover surgery typically combines tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), breast surgery (breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction), and body sculpting (liposuction) to address the physical effects of pregnancy and childbirth.
If you do decide to undergo plastic surgery at the same time as a non-cosmetic procedure, it’s important to ensure that the surgeons performing each aspect of the operation are appropriately qualified to do so (i.e., most gynecologists performing hysterectomies are not board certified plastic surgeons with experience performing tummy tucks). A good hallmark to look for with a prospective plastic surgeon is board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and American College of Surgeons.
