Even in the case of cosmetic procedures as common and popular as liposuction, the pre-surgery consultation is an essential learning experience for patients. I’m always happy to help my patients prepare for their procedures and get more comfortable with all of their options. And while every consultation is different, because every patient is different, there are some universal factors to consider. That’s why I wanted to present some questions that should be asked at liposuction consultation appointments:
Are you board-certified as a plastic surgeon?
This is where the discussion should begin. In order to feel assured and confident in your plastic surgery and the results, it is essential to find a medical professional who is board-certified in plastic surgery to safely perform your surgery. Anyone you consider should be board-certified as a plastic surgeon (not a “cosmetic surgeon”) by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This is important because the American Board of Plastic Surgery requires additional criteria for board-certification, which provides assurance to the patient that they have chosen a surgeon with the requisite skills and experience to provide an outstanding, long-lasting result.
How much experience do you have performing liposuction procedures?
Board-certification is a great start, but it takes more than that to determine the right plastic surgeon to perform your liposuction surgery. It’s also critical that your plastic surgeon has extensive experience performing liposuction, specifically on patients with similar body types and aesthetic needs as you. I recommend asking to see before and after liposuction photos to make sure that your aesthetic sensibilities are a match and your desired results will be possible.
What different liposuction procedure methods are available?
Depending on the needs of each patient, there are different ways that liposuction surgery can be performed. Traditional liposuction involves using a very narrow tube called a cannula to break down fat deposits in the treatment area and then gently suction fat cells out of the body. I also perform a less invasive alternative known as Band Aid Liposuction. Performed using gentle numbing in my office, Band Aid Liposuction uses even smaller incisions to provide more modest, but still meaningful aesthetic results with less downtime at a lower cost than traditional liposuction.
Will I experience any visible scarring following my surgery?
Some amount of scarring is inevitable after any cosmetic surgery, including liposuction. However, it’s often very minimal following this procedure. The incisions made during this surgery are very small and often made in easy to conceal areas, meaning the scars will be tiny and hard to notice. In cases where the patient chooses to undergo Band Aid Liposuction, there will be even less post-surgical scarring.
Preparation is always very important before any cosmetic procedure, and my hope is that reading this will help patients curious about liposuction better prepare for their consultation appointments to come. So, you’ve decided that you want to undergo facelift surgery. That’s a good start, but for prospective facelift patients, this is only the beginning of a series of critically important decisions that will need to be made in order to ensure the best-possible facelift experience and results. Many people do not know that there are different facelift methods that each provide their own unique benefits, depending on the patients. Today, I thought it would be helpful to discuss traditional facelift surgery, as well as my signature Band Aid Mini Facelift, to help patients who are curious gain a better understanding of which technique might be best for them.
Facelift surgery is performed to help patients undo common effects of aging, as well as years of sun exposure that can lead to loose, sagging skin in the face and neck areas. During the procedure, I am able to remove excess skin (and fat as needed) and tighten the remaining tissue in the area. The result is a lifted, natural-looking appearance without any previous wrinkles and droopiness.
My Band Aid Mini Facelift provides people interested in facelift surgery with a proven, less invasive alternative. What makes this version of the facelift unique is my signature technique performed in my office, using gentle numbing instead of general anesthesia, which can also help patients save on potential hospital fees. With a shorter post-surgery recovery period, the Band Aid Mini Facelift uses a smaller incision to provide a more modest (but still outstanding) lifting effect to the lower portion of the face.
In the video below, I discuss some of the different types of facelift surgeries that I perform, including the Band Aid Mini Facelift and the Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift:
I hope readers found this helpful. In many cases, plastic surgery patients have more procedure options than they may have initially realized. It’s just a matter of speaking with a board-certified plastic surgeon, finding one you feel comfortable with and sifting through these options in order to find the best surgical path for you. Today, it’s imperative for plastic surgeons like myself to be able to provide our patients with as many procedure options as possible. Doing so allows my patients to more precisely determine the best procedure option for their needs and ultimately achieve the best, long-lasting results from their surgery. And often these procedure alternatives include less invasive plastic surgery options like my signature line of Band Aid cosmetic surgery procedures. Today, I wanted to focus on my Band Aid Arm Lift and the fantastic benefits that it can provide patients.
I perform the Band Aid Arm Lift to help patients who wish to rejuvenate the appearance of their upper arm(s). Primarily the area between the elbow and shoulder which can begin to droop or sag as a result of weight fluctuation or natural aging. This procedure is intended to provide the following benefits for patients:
The Band Aid Arm Lift differs from a traditional arm lift in some subtle, but very important ways. Because patients who choose to undergo the Band Aid version of this procedure are typically seeking more modest aesthetic results, this surgery will require a smaller incision being made. This also means that there will be less post-surgical scarring after the procedure than a traditional arm lift. In many cases, I will make an incision that extends from from the elbow to the underarm area (or axilla). I always do what I can to hide incisions in difficult to see places or in the natural creases of the skin. Additionally, because this is a less invasive procedure (performed using gentle numbing in my office), the post-surgery recovery period will be shorter when compared to a traditional arm lift. Patients are typically able to return to work and other normal activities about a week after their surgery or possibly longer based on the type of work they do.
In order to be a good candidate for a Band Aid Arm Lift, the patient must be in good physical and mental health at the time of their surgery. This is essential for safely undergoing and recovering from the procedure. Candidates must experience some degree of skin laxity and/or muscle separation in the upper arm area. Good candidates should not be smokers, as nicotine can negatively affect the surgery and post-surgery recovery.
Understanding if an arm lift (and what type of arm lift) is right for you begins with defining your specific aesthetic goals, and consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon like myself to determine the best possible procedure to help achieve them.
