The holiday season always makes us reflect on the year we’ve had. As any year does, 2017 has had its ups and downs, but one of the many blessings we’ve enjoyed is our fantastic, supportive group of patients. Working with you all has been a true joy. If you’re new to our family or you’re in the mood for a walk down memory lane, here are a few of the other happy highlights from 2017.
Top Doctors Award
Every year, Atlanta Magazine publishes a list of the local doctors who have earned distinction from Castle Connolly, a group that evaluates doctors across the country. Nominated by their fellow physicians, these doctors need to make medical contributions, earn the respect of their patients and peers, and more before Castle Connolly names them among the best in their field. I am honored to have received this special distinction once again.
20 Years of the Band Aid Mini Facelift
The Band Aid Mini Facelift is a signature procedure I developed in 1997 to offer patients a lighter, natural-looking facelift with dramatically less recovery time and cost. Performed in-office with gentle numbing, my Band Aid Mini Facelift uses specialized techniques to provide a comprehensively younger look with less scarring, swelling, and bruising and about half the recovery time a typical facelift requires. This year, I celebrated twenty years of using the innovation to help my patients look and feel their best, and I look forward to many more years of the same.
Charity Contests
I’m so fortunate to be able to do what I love every day for my cosmetic surgery patients, and I believe it’s important to share your blessings. That’s why I hold several social media charity contests every year, enlisting my supporters’ helping in finding local charities that do great work for the community. Through nominations and votes, my patients and followers helping me donate thousands of dollars this year to three wonderful organizations: The Tree House, Genesis JOY House Homeless Shelter, and TJ & Friends Foundation.
Our entire staff at the office of Dr. John LeRoy would like to offer all of you, our valued patients, a special thank you. If you’re getting ready for facial plastic surgery, you’ve probably already realized that there is a near endless list of names for different procedures. There are mini facelifts, Lifestyle Lifts, one-stitch lifts, weekend lifts…and then there’s the unique procedure I developed for my own patients called the Band Aid Mini Facelift. So how do you know the difference between all these procedures and which one is right for you?
There are a number of features that make the Band Aid Facelift unique. First, it’s performed using gentle numbing (along with sedation if desired) rather than general anesthesia. This means that you’ll be awake and resting comfortably throughout your procedure. It’s common for general anesthesia to make patients nervous, so getting the results they want without it gives them the best of both worlds. This also reduces the recovery time by about half.
Another unique advantage of the Band Aid Mini Facelift is that it’s performed in my comfortable office setting. Operating rooms and surgical centers can add to the stress of a patient’s procedure, and they add a significant amount to the bill, too. Instead, my patients enjoy a more relaxing experience in our safe, well-equipped office.
Putting it all together, a Band Aid Mini Facelift offers the advantages of about half the recovery time, less scarring, less swelling and bruising, a much lower cost, a gentler process free from general anesthesia, and an in-office experience. So what is the difference between this and a typical mini facelift? In reality, there is no standardized mini facelift. Every surgeon performs it in their own way, so as a patient, it’s difficult to know what you’ll be getting. Some mini facelifts aren’t very “mini” at all, while others don’t reposition the underlying tissue of the face so the results look unnatural or aren’t worth the effort and cost of the procedure. With a Band Aid Mini Facelift, while I do customize the procedure to fit every patient’s needs, it’s a surgery I’ve been performing for over 20 years with more than 6,000 patients, so you can feel confident that you know what you’re getting from the beginning.
As a double board-certified plastic surgeon, specializing in facial rejuvenation, I spend every day guiding patients though the cosmetic surgery process. My best advice to you is to take your time and wait to choose a surgeon until you’ve had an in-person consultation with them and discussed the type of procedure they would perform. I would be honored to help you become your most confident, beautiful self. To take the first step, call my plastic surgery office to schedule a consultation. Every patient’s plastic surgery experience is unique, but it’s only natural to wonder if other people have had an experience similar to yours. Throughout the web, there are resources where patients can connect with other patients as well as board-certified plastic surgeons like me. There are also sites where patients can review cosmetic procedures – everything from Botox® injections to dental veneers. To find out what patients across the nation think about their procedures, we went onto one popular site to find the top five facial plastic surgeries with the best reviews:
#5: Facelifts
A traditional facelift can be a great option for patients with significant skin laxity and facial aging. On top of removing excess skin, the procedure lifts and repositions underlying tissue to a more youthful position to reduce facial hollows. It’s a comprehensive surgery that can take around ten years off a patient’s appearance.
#4: Eyelid Treatments
One of the most common cosmetic issues with the eyelids is “bags under the eyes,” and the most effective way to treat them is with lower eyelid surgery. When they aren’t caused by a lack of sleep or fluid retention, under-eye bags are created by protruding natural fat and sagging skin. Both of these causes can be addressed with lower eyelid surgery or my specialized in-office Band Aid Lower Eyelid Surgery. This also applies to upper eyelid surgery, which resolves excess skin above the upper eyelids.
#3: Liposuction Under the Chin
Regardless of a person’s body size, excess fat can accumulate under the chin, creating a “double chin,” as some people call it. For patients who are already at a healthy weight without loose skin but simply want a slimmer facial profile, liposuction can be very successful. The procedure uses a very narrow tube called a microcannula to remove excess fat and sculpt the area with more flattering contours. Because this is such a small area, I usually perform the surgery using my Band Aid Liposuction method, in-office with gentle numbing.
#2: Neck Lift
The neck is often neglected by patients who want to look younger. But because there is so much mobility and because the skin is naturally thin, the neck ages quickly. A neck lift removes excess sagging skin and repositions the underlying muscle and other tissue with a more youthful shape.
#1: Lower Face Lifts like my Band Aid Mini Facelift
The Band Aid Mini Facelift is a specialized, minimally invasive procedure I developed and refined over the past 20 years. This surgery is performed in-office under local anesthesia, and it offers half the recovery time of a traditional facelift. With so many benefits, it’s no wonder this facelift receives such rave reviews.
It’s always helpful to interact with other people who are in a similar situation to you. Just remember that each person and each surgeon is unique, and the only way to know what procedure is right for you is to see a board-certified plastic surgeon. Breast augmentation is one of the most well-known plastic surgery procedures in the US, so it’s not surprising that it’s among the most common ones as well. But even if the basics are common knowledge, any plastic surgery patient would be wise to do research on the procedure they’re considering. Whether you’re looking for a simple breast enlargement or an augmentation paired with a breast lift, the infographic below can jumpstart your research.
