Everyone who has seen a Hollywood gossip magazine knows that plastic surgery can be done well or it can be done poorly. There are so many factors that affect each patient’s end result, from their body’s natural anatomy and healing process to whether or not they followed their pre- and post-surgical care instructions. But two factors can often have the most powerful impact on the results are (1) having the right procedure for your needs and goals, and (2) selecting the right surgeon to perform it. This is the discussion that I have with every patient who comes to me for facial rejuvenation surgery and doesn’t know if they need a Band Aid Mini Facelift or a traditional facelift.
The Band Aid Facelift is a unique procedure that I developed in order to give my patients a less invasive, in-office alternative to a typical facelift, and I’ve performed it for over 5,000 patients with great success throughout the past 20 years. Using advanced techniques, I’m able to give patients a natural-looking result with this in-office surgery using gentle numbing rather than full general anesthesia. This provides a number of benefits my patients appreciate, including about half the recovery time, a much lower cost, less swelling, less scarring, and simply an easier and more manageable process overall. For select patients, I’ve even taken it another step further with a Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift that offers even less recovery time and cost. So given all that a Band Aid Mini Facelift can offer, many patients ask, why would anyone choose a traditional facelift instead?
Ultimately, the degree of aging a patient has and the amount of improvement they want are the deciding factors for whether they’re a better fit for traditional facelift or a Band Aid Facelift. In order to maintain a level of comfort and safety for the patient, there is a limit on the amount of improvement I can make with the in-office Band Aid Mini Facelift. It can be a fantastic way for patients with a mild to moderate degree of aging to restore a more youthful appearance and to keep up with new signs of aging as they arise. However, for patients whose aging has progressed further and need or want a more significant amount of sagging skin removed and underlying tissue repositioned, a Band Aid Facelift simply won’t be worth their effort because they won’t be happy with the amount of improvement it can provide. For these patients, a traditional facelift is generally the best way to go, and they can then keep up with future aging with occasional minimally invasive procedures so that they continue to look youthful and rested for years to come.
As a board-certified plastic surgeon, my primary goal is to help each patient become their most confident and beautiful self while protecting their health and safety. Knowing which surgical or nonsurgical cosmetic procedure to recommend for each patient is a crucial part of this process. To discuss whether a Band Aid Facelift, a traditional face lift, or another type of surgical or nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure is best for your needs, schedule a plastic surgery consultation today. If you were to ask around any group of people, chances are that many of them would say they have some extra fat they’d like to get rid of. It seems to be a growing concern, and it’s no surprise considering that you can hardly go an hour without seeing someone slender and gorgeous in an ad, on a billboard, or on a screen. While some people successfully slim down using diet and exercise, other people are actually already at a healthy weight but struggle with an unwanted bulge or two. For this latter group, liposuction (or the specialized, minimally invasive Band Aid Liposuction I developed) may be the solution.
Liposuction and Band Aid Liposuction have provided millions of patients in the United States with the opportunity to feel confident in their body. Still, it’s not for everyone, and it needs to be approached with mindfulness and care. If you believe you may be a good candidate for liposuction, I’m happy to help you find out. For so many health issues like heart disease, certain cancers, and adult onset diabetes, any doctor will tell you that the best course of action is to take preventative measures before the condition appears. In a way, aging is no different. It’s not possible to completely prevent your appearance from aging, but there are certainly ways to delay its progress and keep it to a minimum. As a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I’ve helped tens of thousands of patients fulfill their dreams of keeping or attaining an appearance they’re confident in, and I have a few tips to help you do the same.
Sun Protection
Everyone knows that sunscreen and sun-blocking clothing can help you prevent skin cancer, but sun damage is also one of the primary culprits of premature and accelerated aging. Collagen and elastin, two proteins that make young skin firm and smooth, are broken down by UV exposure. This leads fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin to develop faster, and it also causes age spots to appear. Being knowledgeable and protecting your skin from a young age (particularly throughout childhood and your teen years) can make a dramatic difference in your aging process.
Preventative Botox® or Dysport® Injections
Certain common wrinkles, like crow’s feet, forehead creases, and vertical lines between the eyebrows (“frown lines” or “number 11s”), are formed when the facial muscles become tense after years of repeated facial expressions. You may already know that these types of wrinkles can be treated with injections like Botox® and Dysport® injections, which relax these muscles for months at a time. But what you may not know is that by relaxing the muscles, these injections also keep the muscles from contracting, which keeps the wrinkles from worsening. If they’re started at a young age, Botox® and Dysport® injections may be able to keep specific wrinkles at bay from the start.
Start Early with Minimally Invasive Procedures
Some of my facelift patients let aging take its course until their 60s or 70s and then decide to get a facelift. While the surgery produces excellent results, the amount of tissue repositioning it requires at this stage does lead to a rather lengthy recovery period. However, I advise my patients to start thinking about their aging at a younger age. For instance, some patients start having nonsurgical procedures in their 30s to fight the earliest signs of aging, then progress to a Band Aid Mini Facelift in their 40s or early 50s. By addressing aging every several years with minimally invasive procedures, many patients can avoid a more extensive surgery altogether while consistently feeling happy with their youthful look.

Each person has a bit of a story about how we landed in our profession. Some people have known what they wanted to do since they were children and have pursued the same dream until they made it a reality. Others found their careers more as a result of chance or necessity. As a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in mini facelifts, my story involves a little bit of both. Because it’s so important to choose your plastic surgeon wisely, many of my patients want to know more about me – including why I’m a plastic surgeon who specializes in facelifts, and I’m happy to offer some insight.
To some degree, I knew what I wanted to do at a young age – I knew that I wanted to be a doctor for a long time, and by medical school I knew that I wanted to be a surgeon, but I wasn’t sure which area of surgery to specialize in. I discovered my love for cosmetic surgery when, as a medical student, I was able to complete a number of rotations in various surgical specialties, and plastic surgery was one of my last. It appealed to me in part because it lets me actually see the results of my work and see the effect it has on my patients. However, the positivity of the field was perhaps the largest factor that brought me in. Unlike most other types of surgery, cosmetic surgery patients come to us by choice and they’re here with an optimistic outlook and an excitement about their plastic surgery results. This creates an all-around warm and positive environment that’s a joy to experience every day.
The cheerful atmosphere of plastic surgery helped to create the philosophy I use in my practice every day: that the way you look truly can affect the way you feel, and that as a plastic surgeon, I need to be understanding of my patients’ goals and the importance of their results. Ultimately, I believe a successful cosmetic surgery requires two things from the surgeon: (1) the ability to understand the patient, communicate with them, and be sensitive to their needs and goals, and (2) excellent surgical skills, training, and experience. In other words, in order to make a patient happy, I need to both understand the result they want and have the skills necessary to produce it, and this is how I approach every individual cosmetic surgery patient.
In providing an all-around successful and pleasant experience, I believe there is much more required of me than my technical skills. It’s also important to have a comfortable relationship and smooth communication with my patient so that you can feel comfortable asking questions and being open about your goals and your concerns. To that end, I strive every day to build a trust with my patients while also putting my extensive experience and strong surgical skills to work for them. If you want to find out more about the surgeries I offer, how I can address you specific cosmetic concerns, and whether my practice is a good fit for you, schedule a plastic surgery consultation.
