In the interest of my patients, I make a point to check out plastic surgery statistics from time to time. Doing so helps me better grasp the industry from a greater vantage point than just what is going on within my practice. Today, I thought it would be interesting to go into more detail on plastic surgery for the face. Analyzing these statistics help us learn how and why patients are currently choosing certain plastic surgery for facial rejuvenation. All statistics presented were gathered by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) for 2023.
Once again, eyelid surgery was by far the most commonly performed plastic surgery for the face with over 120,000 procedures performed. This was over 40,000 more than the next most common procedure for the face (facelift surgery).
The top-5 most popular in order were eyelid surgery, facelift surgery, rhinoplasty, facial fat transfer injections, and liposuction for the double chin.
Always in demand, facelifts experienced an 8% year-over-year increase, significantly surpassing previous years’ growth. This includes less invasive procedure methods like the Band Aid Mini Facelift.
A relatively new procedure, buccal fat pad removal increased 7% from the previous year.
For younger patients (between 20-30), rhinoplasty was by far the most commonly performed plastic surgery for the face.
Both eyelid surgery and facelift surgery were both hugely popular with patients between 55-69, with this age group accounting for 56% and 59% of those procedures respectively.
I always enjoy diving deeper into industry news like this and gaining a better understanding of what prospective patients may be most interested in when they come visit my office for the first time. Aging is inevitable. As are the effects of aging and how the years can impact the quality of a person’s skin. Even people who go to great lengths to develop and maintain effective skincare routines will not be able to prevent common signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, and a dulled complexion. But that inevitability doesn’t mean that there aren’t outstanding cosmetic solutions available to help rejuvenate the skin and fight off these effects. Today, I wanted to go into detail about my signature Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure by answering a few true and false statements on the subject.
True or False: I Might Only Need One Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment
This is true. While it is not a guarantee, many patients are able to achieve the facial rejuvenation they desire after just one treatment session. As new collagen continues to produce following your treatment, the results will become more pronounced in the days and weeks following treatment. We will discuss your specific needs and develop an appropriate treatment plan at your pre-treatment consultation appointment.
True or False: Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing Can Be a Substitute to Plastic Surgery
This is false. The benefits of Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments are not intended to replace or be a substitute for plastic surgery. Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing is unique among the procedures I perform in its ability to repair damage on the skin’s surface. In addition to making the skin smoother, it can also effectively address age spots, sun damage, and even improve scarring and acne that plastic surgery is not intended to treat. In fact, many patients utilize Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing after they have undergone a plastic surgery procedure like a facelift in order to maximize their results.
True or False: There Will Be No Downtime Required After Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing
This is false, but this downtime is short. Additionally, despite how powerful the anti-aging results can be from this treatment for the face, patients will be able to resume their normal daily activities as soon as one day, but will need at least a week before starting back any intense workout routines. Patients will experience some degree of facial redness (similar to a sunburn) (and some temporary oozing and crusting) after Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing, but this is minor and will fade in about a week or so following your treatment. It is also important to note that the patient will need to avoid sun until the face is fully healed at which time they can wear sunscreen. All of these details will be reviewed prior to treatment.
My Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing procedure can be an excellent solution for a wide variety of aesthetic issues. If you think that you might be a good candidate for this treatment, I advise you to reach out and inquire about a consultation to confirm if it’s the right fit for your needs. Many people associate cosmetic procedures or the term plastic surgery with the notion that you will be left looking artificial and, for lack of a better word, “plastic.” In some instances, people can undergo cosmetic surgery and be left with noticeable changes to their appearance. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Discrete enhancements allow you to achieve dramatic results without completely altering the face you know and love. Subtle cosmetic surgery aims to refresh your appearance while retaining your natural beauty. Luckily, numerous surgical and non-surgical procedures allow patients to achieve this goal without the obvious tell-tale signs of having had a cosmetic procedure performed. In addition to preserving your natural look, there is also the additional benefits of affordability and not having to go under anesthesia.
Surgical Options
When I began my career as a plastic surgeon, I wanted to offer patients a more natural option for cosmetic surgery. That’s when I decided to develop a more natural, affordable, and less invasive Facelift, my Band Aid Mini Facelift. Since this time, I established a line of Band Aid procedures to provide surgical options to patients seeking to tweak their appearance without completely altering their natural look. My Band Aid procedures, which are performed in-office with gentle numbing, are minimally invasive and provide natural-looking enhancements to your appearance. My Band Aid Facelift procedures can address wrinkles, sagging jowls, and general signs of aging, offering a quicker recovery than traditional surgery. One of the greatest benefits of my Band Aid procedures is that I can focus on specific problem areas that my patients desire to address. A high level of customization allows for a unique and personalized result.
Non-Surgical Options
Some patients simply are not ready for surgery or may require more of a maintenance approach to their facial rejuvenation. Non-surgical options such as injectables and laser skin resurfacing are great options for those desiring to restore youth and radiance discretely and with minimal downtime. These procedures have become some of the most popular non-surgical treatments for minimizing wrinkles or tweaking, plumping, and contouring one’s physical features.
Botox® and Dysport® are the most common injectables used to restore a rested and youthful look. Everyday expressions, such as smiling, laughing, and even becoming angry, cause the facial muscles to contract, forming lines and wrinkles over time. Botox® and Dysport® prevent or minimize these muscles from contracting and smooth already existing lines and wrinkles.
Dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Juvéderm®, and Radiesse® are great for restoring lost facial volume that occurs as we age or in some cases plump what we never had. Collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin production decrease as we get older. Using dermal fillers, I can replace that lost or reduced volume and promote the production of new collagen and hyaluronic acid. Restylane®, Juvéderm®, and Radiesse® are great options for plumping the lips as well as addressing deeper lines and wrinkles, sagging jowls, and facial contouring.
My Band Aid laser skin resurfacing treatment is a versatile therapy that works well on its own or combined with other surgical and non-surgical procedures. Performed in-office with gentle numbing, Band Aid laser skin resurfacing utilizes DOT laser therapy to penetrate the dermis and create thousands of microscopic perforations which activate the body’s healing process. This process stimulates natural collagen production and cellular turnover which works to tighten skin, reduce wrinkles and scarring, and repair surface damage.
Subtle changes to one’s appearance can go a long way toward improving self-esteem and boosting confidence. You can’t stop the aging process, but you can age gracefully. If you would like to restore youthful radiance to your appearance in a subtle and natural way, schedule a consultation with me, Dr. John LeRoy. Together, we can develop a customized treatment plan to address your aging concerns. For more information and practice updates, follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
Rhinoplasty, also known more commonly as a “nose job,” is somewhat unique among cosmetic surgery procedures. That is because the procedure has the potential to offer both cosmetic and medical benefits to patients. However, exactly what these benefits are can still be a source of misunderstanding for some prospective patients. It’s important for people to know exactly what their procedure is capable of (and not capable of) in order to maintain realistic expectations. This is why I thought it would be instructive to discuss some things about rhinoplasty surgery.
Rhinoplasty Can Provide A More Balanced Facial Appearance
Like many other cosmetic procedures, the aesthetic results achieved with rhinoplasty are not intended to dramatically reinvent the patient’s appearance. Rhinoplasty is meant to help patients achieve a more balanced and symmetrical appearance by bringing harmony to their other facial features. My patients are often surprised by how even a slight tweak to the size and/or shape of the nose can make a subtle, but major difference.
Rhinoplasty Cannot Provide Substantial Anti-Aging Results
Rhinoplasty has many benefits, but helping patients appear younger isn’t really one of them. However, combining rhinoplasty with other facial procedures commonly used for anti-aging purposes like a facelift or eyelid surgery can help provide comprehensive and long-lasting facial rejuvenation.
Rhinoplasty Can Be Performed Using Different Techniques Depending On The Patient
Rhinoplasty is a very versatile procedure that can assist just about any patient. For instance, year in and year out, rhinoplasty surgery remains consistently popular among both male and female patients. During surgery, my surgical technique for a male patient will often vary from what I think is in the best interest of a female patient. Additionally, certain techniques may be more appropriate to help patients of different ethnic backgrounds. This is based on structural differences of the nose for each patient that I treat.
The success rate among rhinoplasty patients is incredibly high and I am proud to be able to regularly help patients improve their appearance and self-confidence by recontouring their nose. When you think of facial rejuvenation, facelifts, eye lifts, and brow lifts are often the first few treatments that come to mind, but neckline contouring shouldn’t be overlooked. There is something to be said for a graceful, smooth, and contoured neckline. It signals youth and restores balance to the face. In some cases, neck lift procedures can enhance one’s appearance so significantly that there is no need for other facial cosmetic procedures. Though, it is the ideal procedure to complement facelifts, eye lifts, brow lifts, as well as other surgical facial treatments.
What is a Neck Lift:
Neck lift procedures, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, focus on tightening and revitalizing lax skin around the jowls and chin. Our collagen production decreases as we age, causing these areas to sag. Other factors such as genetics, gravity, and lifestyle habits also affect the rate at which aging occurs, and this leads patients to seek cosmetic procedures which are aimed at restoring youth and rejuvenating the face and neck.
Contouring the jawline and neck will vary from patient to patient, and each person’s individual aesthetic goal will be unique. Loose, sagging skin and weakened muscles can result in the look of what is sometimes referred to as a “turkey neck,” giving the appearance that the patient is older than his or her age. This excess skin and noticeable muscle bands can also mask the appearance of the chin and jawline, eliminating the natural contour. A neck lift procedure will remove excess skin and tighten the neck muscles. As a result, firmness and definition are restored to the patient’s face, resulting in a youthful, balanced appearance and a defined chin and jawline.
My Band Aid Neck Lift Procedure:
My Band Aid neck lift procedure is unique because I can perform it in-office with gentle numbing, eliminating the need for an offsite surgical center and general anesthesia. I always tailor my surgical procedures to each patient individually, but generally speaking, I will focus on excess fat removal, tightening muscles, and redistributing tissue to achieve a natural, rejuvenated appearance.
Because I can perform this procedure in-office, the recovery period is shortened and the cost is less. However, you will be asked to avoid strenuous activity for several days following the procedure to properly heal the treated area. You should be able to return to your normal routine within one-two weeks of surgery.
I always strive to achieve a balance between restoring your youthful appearance and ensuring you will continue to look like yourself after any cosmetic procedure. The goal isn’t to change who you are but to enhance and refresh your natural look and glow. If you are considering a neck lift procedure, schedule a consultation with me, Dr. John LeRoy. I would be happy to discuss this procedure in greater detail and answer any questions you may have. For more information about me and my practice, follow me on Facebook.
