Announcing Our Latest Charity Contest Winner: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Especially during this Thanksgiving season, all of us at the office of plastic surgeon John L. LeRoy, MD are honored to be able to offer help to those who have less to be thankful for this year. Because of your support and your participation in our fall charity contest, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve been able to contribute to the life-saving cause of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
This unique hospital was the brainchild of Danny Thomas who, in the 1950s, set off on a mission to use his success in show business to give back to his community. With the help of a group of Memphis business leaders, as well as a volunteer group called ALSAC®, he raised enough money to make his dream possible, and the hospital opened its doors in 1962.
Since then, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has grown into one of the most valuable sources of both patient care and research for pediatric diseases. Serving children with life-threatening illnesses, like cancer and sickle cell disease, the hospital has played a powerful role in saving and improving lives throughout the country. In fact, thanks in part to the doctors and researchers at St. Jude, the survival rate for pediatric cancer has risen from 20% in 1962 to 80% today, and while children with ALL (a type of leukemia and the most common form of childhood cancer) faced a 4% survival rate in 1962, they now have a 94% chance of survival.
On behalf of all our staff at the office of Dr. John LeRoy, we would like to extend a thank you to each of you. Your support has allowed us to spread joy not only to the patients we work with every day but also people throughout the country who need our help the most, like the families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
