Local Mentorship Program Atlanta S.E.E.D.s Wins Social Media Charity Contest
At the office of Atlanta plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy, we’re honored to be able to help our patients be their most confident and beautiful selves, and we place importance on being part of a great community. In an effort to pay it forward and help the community around us, we asked our patients and supporters to help us select a charity to win a $1,000 donation. The polls are closed, the votes have been counted, and we’re pleased to announce the winning organization: Atlanta S.E.E.D.s!
The Atlanta S.E.E.D.s program (Self-Esteem, Education and Empowerment through Dance) has been serving the Roswell area since 2012, when founder Liezel Lane started a local chapter of the organization that was first conceptualized in 2000 in New Mexico. The program’s mission, focused on helping girls in their pre-teen and teenage years, is “to mentor young women in order to create healthy and strong individuals who are socially and fiscally responsible to themselves and their community.” They accomplish this ambitious goal by taking a multi-faceted approach, using dance instruction along with guest speakers about everything from financial literacy to career choices to healthy nutrition. The program also seeks to help the girls develop emotional maturity through journal writing and talking circles.
As a varied after-school program, Atlanta S.E.E.D.s strives to help each participant to learn as much from the program as possible. By incorporating unique educational opportunities in topics that allow the girls to get a leg up on life, the program seeks to help each participant to become a well-rounded, confident young lady who has a greater opportunity to accomplish her goals in life. Through scholarships and an acceptance policy that isn’t based on talent, experiences, or standard beauty, Liezel Lane strives to make S.E.E.D.s available to as many local girls as possible.
We identify strongly with the mission of Atlanta S.E.E.D.s and applaud their work toward giving young girls a strong foundation, and we’re honored to be a part of their cause. Thank you to all those who nominated and voted for the deserving charities in our social media charity contest.
