As one of the most popular plastic surgeries in the country, liposuction is quite well-known. Many people already know that the procedure removes excess fat from the treatment area by suctioning the fat through a narrow tube. However, fewer people realize that there is a way to make the procedure minimally invasive—a unique surgery which I developed and called Band Aid Liposuction.
Band Aid Liposuction is performed in-office with gentle numbing, and is designed for patients who have particularly small areas of unwanted fat. As a result, the treatment can be an ideal option not only for patients who have tiny pockets of fat in the typical areas (like the abdomen), but also for patients who have excess fat in smaller areas that few people think of in connection with liposuction. Check out some of the areas where Band Aid Liposuction can be highly effective in creating slimmer body contours with minimal downtime:
Every patient has their own unique goals, needs, and priorities, and choosing the correct procedure is an important step toward getting the best possible results. For example, patients who have not only unwanted fat but also excess, sagging skin on their midsection are better suited for a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). Summer is a favorite season for many people, and for good reason—it often comes with long-anticipated vacations to the beach, or other ways to enjoy the great outdoors. But a common and unwelcomed side effect of beach vacations is self-consciousness, as swimsuits have a tendency to expose the physique flaws that make us feel less than confident. Understandably, many of my patients ask how plastic surgery can help them to enjoy their relaxing summers rather than spend them feeling insecure. Every patient has their own “problem areas,” so below are three popular procedures that can actually leave you excited to put on a swimsuit.
Breast Lift
While the natural aging process causes most women to experience some degree of breast sagging, factors like genetic predisposition, weight fluctuations, and pregnancy cause some women to experience more sagging than their peers. And because swimsuits don’t exactly provide ample support, trips to the beach can be a stressful affair. That’s where a breast lift comes in. Using an incision around the areola and down the bottom of the breast, I am able to remove excess skin and fat and re-shape the remaining tissue to have a more elevated, youthful position. With a somewhat brief recovery period (most daily activities can typically be resumed a week after the procedure) and scarring that is hidden by even low-cut swimwear, the breast lift procedure can be an effective option for patients who want a younger bust, and in some cases it can be combined with a breast augmentation or a breast reduction for patients who also want a change in size.
Tummy Tuck
The midsection is one of the most common sources of insecurity for patients, and although our standards of beauty for both men and women call for a flat, athletic stomach, these results aren’t always achievable with diet and exercise alone. A tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) can be tailored to fit each patient’s needs, but involves a combination of removing excess skin and tightening the skin that remains, removing stubborn fat, and tightening the abdominal muscles. Besides my signature Band Aid Tummy Tuck (a minimally-invasive version of the procedure, performed in-office with gentle numbing), the procedure can range from addressing solely the abdominal area to affecting most of the lower body with a circumferential abdominoplasty. For most patients, though, the incision and scarring can be easily concealed by most bathing suits.
Liposuction
Liposuction is an incredibly versatile procedure; it can be used to remove stubborn fat from nearly any area of the body, and can be minimally-invasive like my Band Aid Liposuction or more comprehensive. Many patients turn to liposuction to slim down an area that is notoriously difficult to naturally improve: the thighs. Even the upper thighs, often known as “saddlebags,” which are a source of discontent for many patients but are often unconcealable in a swimsuit, can be improved through liposuction. Using a narrow tube and small incisions for minimal scarring, I am able to break down and remove unwanted fat cells to create more precise and desirable contours.
Throughout my years as a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I have seen so many patients’ lives changed for the better. For some patients, feeling unhappy with how they look is a nagging presence that adds stress to any situation, especially events like beach vacations that are meant to be relaxing. I believe that every patient deserves to be their most confident and beautiful self, whatever shape that may take, and I’m honored to help my patients achieve this goal. Throughout my years as a plastic surgeon, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know my patients and helping them achieve their aesthetic goals. My relationship with my patients also helped me to identify a need that wasn’t always being met: the need for minimally-invasive versions of traditional plastic surgery procedures. As a result, I developed my line of Band Aid procedures.
Band Aid procedures, like the Band Aid Facelift and Band Aid Blepharoplasty, are essentially “mini” versions of their more comprehensive counterparts, because they use minimally-invasive techniques and can be performed in-office with gentle numbing. For instance, my Band Aid Tummy Tuck targets a smaller area of the abdomen that needs attention, so rather than removing fat and skin across the entire tummy, it requires a much smaller incision than a traditional tummy tuck. Each of these Band Aid procedures can be performed in-office using gentle numbing.
Of all the procedures that I offer, I am best known for my Band Aid procedures. For many of my patients, Band Aid plastic surgery not only gives them safer and more natural-looking results, but in fact allows them to access plastic surgery when they otherwise wouldn’t be able to. Depending on the surgery itself and the patient’s unique needs and goals, some plastic surgery procedures can be too much of a commitment for a patient. For example, a mother with three small children may be able to improve her self-confidence with liposuction to remove a small amount of fat on her hips, but cannot dedicate the downtime she needs in order to fully recover. In her case, Band Aid Liposuction can give her a more desirable contour while being able to fit more easily into her life.
Every day, my goal is to help my patients be their most beautiful and confident selves, and being experienced in a wide variety of procedures helps me to provide each patient with the best possible care. In the most recent issue of Atlanta Magazine, double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy was featured with his innovative line of Band Aid Procedures. Band Aid plastic surgery procedures are essentially minimally-invasive versions of traditional, more comprehensive cosmetic procedures (like facelifts and body contouring). These procedures have the very clear advantage of minimizing recovery time, which makes them much easier to fit into patients’ busy lives. However, most patients are even more thrilled when they realize the many other perks that Band Aid procedures offer:
Band Aid procedures can provide continuous maintenance of a youthful appearance. For many patients, the best way to achieve their ideal results is to perform band aid procedures as the need arises. While plastic surgery can turn back the proverbial clock and take years off a patient’s appearance, it cannot stop the aging process. By having less-invasive procedures (such as a Band Aid Facelift) to restore their youth whenever it becomes necessary, patients can continuously have an appearance that reflects how energetic they truly feel.
Band Aid procedures are brief. The length of time involved in a surgery is important information for the patient to know. Not only are briefer procedures more convenient, because they don’t require spending the entire day in a surgical facility (Band Aid procedures are performed in-office), but they also have a lower risk for complications.
The results of a Band Aid procedure can be discreet. One feature that many patients enjoy most about procedures likes Band Aid Blepharoplasty is that they achieve natural-looking results. Because these surgeries have a less dramatic effect on the patient’s appearance, it is often not obvious that the patient has had a cosmetic procedure. In fact, many of our patients hear their friends and family commenting, “I don’t know what you did different, but you look great!” This gives the patient the freedom to decide whether to tell others about their procedure, or whether to keep it to themselves.
Band Aid procedures typically result in less scarring. One of the ways that procedures like the Band Aid Tummy Tuck are less invasive is by utilizing smaller incisions. While diligent efforts are made to minimize visible scarring in any plastic surgery, Band Aid procedures further lower the appearance of scars because there is less tissue affected by the incision. This allows the results to look even more natural and discreet.
Band Aid procedures are only performed by Dr. John LeRoy. As the pioneer of the minimally-invasive Band Aid cosmetic procedures, only Dr. LeRoy performs these specialized surgeries. This means that patients can truly know that their surgeon is the foremost expert on the procedure.
With their numerous advantages and perks, Band Aid procedures are a great option that allow many patients to have an appearance that makes them confident without taking extensive time away from their day-to-day activities. However, every patient is different, and some patients find that their goals and needs are better aligned with the more comprehensive plastic surgeries that Dr. LeRoy offers . Scheduling a consultation with Dr. LeRoy will let you take the first step toward determining the best rejuvenation option for you. There are certain professionals who we’re very quick to trust, people who we may associate with having all the answers. Doctors are toward the top of this list. Often, people tend to see healthcare providers as almost magical, and assume that if they’re able to call themselves a doctor, they know everything there is to know about health. But it’s important for us to remind ourselves that not all doctors have the same amount of experience and expertise, which is why we need to know exactly who our doctors are and whether they’re truly experts in their field.
This month, I was featured in Atlanta Magazine in order to help all my patients (and potential future patients) get to know me better. Certain medical experiences and accomplishments in my career have been especially enlightening for me, so I’d like to highlight a few of them for you:
Double board certification – I am extremely proud to have board certification in both Plastic Surgery and General Surgery. To become a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I had to demonstrate that I am highly proficient not only in the plastic surgery procedures that I perform every day, but also in general surgery, like the experience I gained during my fellowship at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. This gives me some extra experience and knowledge about an array of surgical procedures, allowing me to better understand and protect the health of my patient while giving them the realistic cosmetic results they’re seeking.
Band Aid plastic surgery procedures – Throughout my career, I have developed a complete line of minimally-invasive procedures, including the Band Aid Tummy Tuck, Band Aid Liposuction, Band Aid Facelift, and many more. My patients have found these procedures to be just the answer they’re looking for when they want more natural-looking results with less downtime.
Professional affiliations – Joining professional organizations (such as the American Medical Association, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the National Board of Medical Specialties, the Georgia Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) has been a great tool throughout my career. It has enabled me to stay up-to-date with all the latest plastic surgery developments and technology so that I can give my patients the absolute best combination of safe surgery and cosmetic results. If you want to stay up-to-date on developments in plastic surgery, you can easily do so by following me on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
But even with my professional accolades, my proudest accomplishments are my satisfied patients. They allow me to do what I love every day and to help my patients be their most confident selves. So thank you to my past patients, and to my future patients as well, for giving me the privilege to work with you. You truly make my job more meaningful every day.
