With such rapid advancement in the world of plastic surgery and an ever growing procedure menu for patients to choose from, studies show that facelifts are becoming less desired. Patients are now opting for less invasive procedures like Dr. John LeRoy’s Band Aid Facelift, cosmetic injections (Botox® and Dysport®), facial fillers (Restylane® and Juverderm®), and facial laser skin resurfacing. In addition to expanded procedure options, facial rejuvenation patients are starting treatments at a younger age: so their cosmetic issues are less advanced than previous facelift candidates.
American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery statistics reveal that, while the overall number of injectable, facial filler, and lasers treatments performed this past year increased; fewer cosmetic procedure patients opted for facelifts. In addition to the reasons cited above, many people express fear about the often overly dramatic results of traditional facelift procedures.
Dr. LeRoy doesn’t think the facelift procedure will be replaced by any one superficial treatment; citing facelift surgery’s ability to physically address the underlying issue: lax facial muscles which have shifted in areas to produce sagging. However, Dr. LeRoy knows the younger, more proactive, facial plastic surgery demographic requires a refined version of the facial cosmetic surgery. This was the driving force behind Dr. LeRoy’s development of the minimally invasive Band Aid Facelift procedure in 1997.
Performed in-office and requiring only local anesthesia, the Band Aid Facelift has similar advantages to the dermal injectables (Botox®, Dysport®, Restylane®, and Juverderm®) and laser skin treatments used to eliminate wrinkles in that it can target very specific areas of concern. This custom-tailored approach to facial rejuvenation allows Dr. LeRoy to address the isolated needs of patients in their 40’s to the comprehensive requests of patient in their 80’s.
During consultation, Dr. LeRoy discusses the patient’s options, desires, and needs for their plastic surgery procedure. Dr. LeRoy performs upper (usually including a brow lift and blepharoplasty procedure), lower (usually including a jowl and necklift), or middle facelift (focusing on mouth and cheeks). Dr. LeRoy also offers a Band Aid Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and a Band Aid Brow Lift.
The Golden Girls legend Betty White was quoted in a recent interview saying that she wished some of her friends had aged gracefully and not had plastic surgery because she barely recognizes them. She says that people will come up to her and she will recognize their voice, but she just cannot identify their new face. Betty says she would not consider plastic surgery and prefers to age gracefully. The good news is that subtle facial plastic surgery results do exist, the trick is finding a discerning plastic surgeon like Dr. John LeRoy.
The most common negative review of the facelift is the unnatural, stretched look it provides, causing patients to look unlike themselves. Dr. LeRoy has developed a mini-facelift procedure, called the Band Aid facelift, which provides a more youthful lifted look, without compromising the patients’ natural features. Therefore, the patient still looks like his or herself.
Dr. LeRoy realizes that the goal of facial plastic surgery is not to drastically change a patient’s appearance, but to emphasize the patient’s naturally attractive features by rejuvenating only certain areas: lifting the forehead region (forehead lift) or eliminating excess skin along the chin area (neck lift.) The Band Aid Facelift, and LeRoy’s other band aid procedures, are not as expansive as their traditional versions, but can be performed in-office with local anesthesia targeting the patient’s problem areas. These “mini” procedures also cut down on recovery time and hospitalization costs.
