Dr. John LeRoy Explains Different Plastic Surgery Options for Neck Rejuvenation
If you are not currently happy with the appearance of your neck and chin area, the good news is that there are several outstanding ways to address this with the help of cosmetic surgery. Neck rejuvenation can take many forms, and it can be a challenge for some people to differentiate between these options and determine the right course of action for their specific needs. That’s where I can help. I have been helping my patients recontour their neck areas for many years and wanted to speak today about a few of the most common plastic surgery procedures for the neck and the different ways they are able to help.
Neck Lift Surgery
Neck lift surgery is done to help patients by tightening and revitalizing loose or sagging skin and muscle around the jowls and underneath the chin area. Sagging skin in this area and weakened or damaged muscles can lead to the appearance of a “turkey neck,” which can make both men and women look far older than their years. By removing this excess skin, repairing damaged muscles, and lifting the remaining tissue, a neck lift is able to provide a more sculpted, defined jawline and younger-looking overall appearance.
Facelift Surgery
Depending on the extent of your issues, facelift surgery can also be a great way to alter the lower portion of the face, including the neck. Much like a neck lift, a facelift works by removing and tightening the skin around the face and neck, and then repositioning the remaining tissue. This is done to decrease droopiness and alleviate wrinkles, fine lines, and other issues with the skin’s texture. I am able to perform facelift surgery to target areas like the cheeks, around the mouth, and the jawline.
Liposuction for the Neck
For some people, their issue has nothing to do with loose skin, but the accumulation of fat in the neck and underneath the chin area. Even people who are otherwise at a healthy body weight can experience excess fat that creates the appearance of a “double chin.” Liposuction for the neck can help in these cases by surgically removing this fat and creating a more trim and better-defined neck, jowl and chin area. This can be especially helpful for younger patients who have not yet experienced any issues with loose or sagging skin.
I hope anyone concerned about their neck will be intrigued about these options and take the next step towards improved appearance and self-esteem. For patients who seek more modest aesthetic improvement, I also offer minimally invasive Band Aid versions of all three of these procedures, performed in my office under gentle numbing.
