We Have a Winner! Alzheimer’s Association to Receive $1,000 Charity Donation

In late September, double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy announced a social media contest to benefit Atlanta-area nonprofits. The contest was held on Facebook, where fans had the chance to nominate, in 50 words or fewer, their favorite Georgia charity. Four nominees were selected as finalists and for two weeks, both Dr. LeRoy’s Facebook fans and the general public were encouraged to vote for the finalist whose mission they believed could best be served with a $1,000 donation.

alzheimers-association-chairity winnerDr. LeRoy believes strongly in the value and importance of giving back to the community that helped him build a thriving practice. His loyal patients and Facebook fans are clearly very in tune with and passionate about the need to support nonprofit work in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. Both Dr. LeRoy and his staff are immensely grateful for such compassionate supporters.

Many of us have a friend or loved one who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. While there is currently no cure for the disease, ongoing research, persistent advocacy, and the dedicated work of organizations like Alzheimer’s Association are bringing us closer to the day when no one, patient or family member, will have to suffer from Alzheimer’s debilitating effects.

We are proud and excited to be able to offer meaningful support to the mission of Alzheimer’s Association. In addition to funding research and advocacy measures, the organization also helps provide care and support to millions of Alzheimer’s patients and family members with a 24-hour helpline, thousands of support groups nationwide, and a vast library of online resources. Alzheimer’s Association also regularly exceeds the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance’s minimum standards for allocation of donor dollars; while the Alliance requires at least 65% go to program activities, Alzheimer’s Association’s most recent numbers show 77%.

Alzheimer’s Association will receive a $1,000 donation from Dr. LeRoy to advance their mission, which is “to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.” The 501(c)(3) organization was founded in 1980 with Jerome H. Stone as its first president. Today, Alzheimer’s Association is a fundraising and advocacy powerhouse for Alzheimer’s disease.

Thanks to all who participated in the contest! More charity contests are planned for 2015, so stay tuned for your chance to nominate your favorite charity. To keep up with contests and other events, be sure to connect with Dr. LeRoy on Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
