Thank You for a Wonderful 2016
It’s hard to believe another year is already wrapping up. As a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I am thrilled to spend every day fulfilling my passion and I’m honored to be able to help my patients become their most confident and beautiful selves. This year, we had plenty to celebrate at our cosmetic surgery office.
The Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift
I’ve been performing the Band Aid Facelift I developed for more than 20 years with great success. And while it generally takes around 8-10 years for a patient’s aging to catch up with their surgical results, I’ve found that many patients want a “touch-up” after three or four years to address the aging that has taken place since their surgery. To respond to this common request, this year I introduced the Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift. This procedure is essentially an even less invasive version of my Band Aid Facelift, and it involves half the recovery time and half the cost of the Band Aid Facelift as well. It’s an ideal way for patients to simply address their signs of aging as they arise in order to maintain a youthful yet natural look throughout the years.
Four Charity Contest Winners
If you’ve been following our practice on social media or if you subscribe to our plastic surgery newsletter, you probably know that each year, we host charity contests in order to identify non-profit organizations in Georgia who are providing a valuable service to the community. Our social media followers help us by nominating and voting for their favorite charities, and the winning organization receive a $1,000 donation to continue or expand their important work. This year, we were honored to make donations to four unique groups: The Mastocytosis Society (dedicated to helping patients with mastocytosis as well as their families), Little Nuggets Rescue (a pet rescue in Snellville), Remembering Ruthie Rescue (a pet rescue in Lawrenceville), and Calvary Children’s Home (a home for displaced children, primarily those who would otherwise be in foster care). We look forward to seeing the powerful impact all of these organizations continue to have on the community.
New Member of the Family
If you’re a current or former patient, you probably know and love our Surgical Coordinator Rebecca as much as we do. This year, Rebecca and her husband were thrilled to become parents to a beautiful baby girl. They’re all healthy and enjoying their transition to a family of three, and everyone is looking forward to getting to know our new member of the family!
It’s certainly been an exciting year at our plastic surgery office, and we have all of you to thank. It’s because of our valued patients and supporters that we’re able to continue serving the Atlanta community and even making medical innovations, and we wish everyone an outstanding 2017. Ask Dr. LeRoy: Why Do You Offer So Many Different Types of Facelifts?
For people who haven’t spent much time around the plastic surgery world, their only impression of the field may be the stories they’ve seen on the news about patients who undergo a long series of procedures to look like their favorite celebrity. But that’s not a representation of cosmetic surgery for the majority of patients and trusted surgeons. For the most part, patients want to look like themselves—just with a few minor improvements. As a double board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial rejuvenation, I typically hear, “I want to look the way I did five, ten, or fifteen years ago.” But here’s the catch: turning back the clock on facial aging looks different for everyone. That’s why I offer three distinct types of face lift surgery, and each is customized to the individual patient: the traditional facelift, the Band Aid Mini Facelift, and the Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift.
Traditional Facelift
As the most comprehensive facial rejuvenation option, a face lift is performed under general anesthesia. Few patients realize that facial aging is caused not only by the loss of skin firmness, but also by changes to the underlying facial structure, so a facelift addresses both of these issues by removing excess skin as well as repositioning the underlying facial tissue. This option is generally ideal for patients who have rather extensive aging and are looking for a dramatic improvement. However, I also maintain the priority of making the results look natural, rather than overdone or “windblown.”
Band Aid Mini Facelift
I developed this procedure nearly 20 years ago as a way to offer patients the precision of plastic surgery with less recovery time. Using specialized, minimally invasive techniques, my Band Aid Facelift is performed using gentle numbing, so patients have no need for general anesthesia, the tracheal tube or other necessities that come with it. Instead, the surgery is performed in-office, and the result is a natural-looking result that can take eight to twelve years off a patient’s appearance, all with half the recovery time and half the cost of a traditional face lift.
Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift
As effective as they are, neither the traditional or the Band Aid facelift can stop the aging process (nor can anything known to medical science). So eventually, patients develop new signs of aging, and they generally want to treat them so they can maintain their cosmetic surgery results. While most patients aren’t ready for another Band Aid Facelift for eight to ten years after their initial procedure, the Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift is an even milder surgery which is designed for approximately three to four years post-surgery. It’s also performed in-office with gentle numbing, but it requires just half of the cost and downtime of even the Band Aid Mini Face Lift.
While my facial rejuvenation patients are each best suited for one of the three facelift options above, it’s important to recognize that each surgery is unique as well, because patients age in their own way. For instance, one patient may require their surgery to focus on the mid-face, while another may be more concerned about their jowls. A different patient may struggle primarily with sagging skin, while another is more affected by fat distribution. This is why your first step should be to schedule a plastic surgery consultation to discuss the options for your unique anatomy. What’s New at Dr. John LeRoy’s Office?
The medical field is always changing and improving, from life-saving new medicines to less invasive ways to perform existing procedures. At the office of double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John LeRoy, there’s always something new happening as well. Here’s a quick snapshot to help you stay up-to-date:
- New procedure: The Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift
Dr. LeRoy is already well-known for his Band Aid Facelift – a minimally invasive version of the much-loved but often extensive facelift which he developed and has performed more than 5,000 times in the past twenty years. This procedure focuses on natural-looking results with around half the recovery time and cost of a traditional facelift, and it’s performed in-office using gentle numbing. But Dr. LeRoy has now perfected an even lighter version of this surgery, called the Band Aid Micro Mini Facelift. As the latest in his innovative line of Band Aid procedures, this new option is ideal for patients who have already had a face lift or a Band Aid Facelift, and who want to freshen up their results by repairing the new aging that has taken place around three or four years after their surgery. - LeRoy Featured in Atlanta Magazine
The October issue of Atlanta Magazine offers insight into Dr. LeRoy’s Band Aid Mini Facelift—in particular, the natural results this surgery can achieve. The goal of a Band Aid Face Lift is subtle, incremental improvements to keep you looking your best without the need for the more extensive anesthesia and recovery time required from a traditional facelift. One advantage of these natural-looking results (and the minimized scarring that goes along with them) is that patients feel they have more discretion. They don’t experience the “windblown” or “overdone” look that makes their face lift obvious to everyone they see. In fact, many patients report being told, “something about you just looks brighter and refreshed, but I can’t figure out what it is.”
- October Special Offers on Non-Surgical Facial Treatments
Our goal is to help every patient be their most confident and beautiful self, and the way we achieve this varies from patient to patient. For those who just need a smaller improvement, or those who have aesthetic concern which surgery doesn’t directly address (such as age spots and fine lines), our non-surgical options can be the perfect solution. This month, enjoy savings on two popular choices: Band Aid Skin Tightening (which uses controlled warmth to firm aging skin) and Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing (which sends tiny columns of light into your skin to activate the healing process and remove a number of surface imperfections).
Innovation can offer great benefits in any area, but it has a particularly powerful effect in a field like plastic surgery, where advancements have a direct impact on both a patient’s safety and their ability to feel confident about their appearance. All About the Eyes
Your eyes are the major focal point of your face, so it can be particularly frustrating that they are also more vulnerable to aging than most other areas, thanks to the many movements they make throughout the day and the naturally thin skin around them. The good news is that there are ways to turn back the clock and give your eyes a more youthful and energized look. Everyone ages in their own way, but as a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I offer a variety of methods to address the unique ways each patient ages around their eyes.
For “hooded” eyelids:
The upper eyelids develop a “hooded” appearance when the skin above the upper eyelid sags over the eyelid itself. This can be impacted by genetics, but it also tends to occur or worsen as the skin ages and becomes less firm, ultimately making one or both eyes look less open, less awake, and even less friendly. Upper eyelid surgery (or upper blepharoplasty) is a surgery which removes a small amount of the sagging skin, restoring a more youthful look. For some patients, this can be done with my minimally invasive Band Aid Blepharoplasty, which is performed in-office with gentle numbing for reduced recovery time.
For “bags under the eyes”:
We all have small deposits of fat beneath our eyes, but heredity and aging can cause these deposits to extend forward, “puffing up” below the eyes. Especially when combined with the natural thinning and sagging of the skin with age, these deposits create the appearance of “bags under the eyes.” Band Aid Lower Eyelid Surgery, traditional lower blepharoplasty, or transconjunctival lower eyelid surgery (using an incision inside the lower eyelid to leave no visible scarring) can address these concerns by removing the unneeded fat deposits and restoring firmness to the lax skin if needed.
For dark circles under the eyes:
While they make you look sleep-deprived, dark circles under the eyes are a persistent problem for some patients regardless of how well-rested they are. Depending on your specific needs, this may be improved by using facial filler injections into the hollow below the eye. Whether it’s performed with Restylane®, Juvéderm®, or another specific formula, this restores a natural-looking and youthful plumpness to the area in order to reduce the “sunken” look and the shadows it creates. However, because of the complex anatomy in this area, these injections should only be performed by someone who is highly qualified and experienced in the procedure, such as a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial procedure. For some patients, the best option may be Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing. Using a precise “dot” pattern of laser columns, this treatment eases a number of surface skin imperfections while restoring skin-firming collagen.
For wrinkles around the eyes:
Most wrinkles around the eyes (like crow’s feet and frown lines) are caused by a combination of two major factors: repeated facial expressions leading to tense muscles, and a loss of firmness and elasticity in the skin. Fortunately, there are remedies for both of these issues. Botox® and Dysport® injections temporarily relax the underlying facial muscles, causing fine lines and creases to even out. To restore the firmness of the skin, Band Aid Skin Tightening uses controlled warmth to rebuild skin-firming collagen in a non-surgical and non-invasive way which is gentle enough to be used around the eyes.
While any one of these aesthetic concerns can put a dent in a person’s self-confidence, many of my patients suffer from several of them at once. In these cases, most eye rejuvenation methods can be combined and performed either at the same time or as part of a multi-step process.
