It seems just yesterday we were welcoming 2015, and now the year is already wrapping up as we prepare for 2016. But as quickly as the year has gone by, there have been no shortage of moments we’ve cherished. Here are a few of our favorite highlights from 2015:

At our plastic surgery office, we love the work we do every day, but we also love being able to contribute to the well-being of other members of our community. This year, we held three social media charity contests, enlisting your help to select three deserving charities to receive $1,000 donations to continue their valuable work. We were honored to contribute to the missions of Atlanta S.E.E.D.s, Atlanta Humane Society, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
  • Adding a new cosmetic facial injection to our menu of services. As a cosmetic surgeon, I believe in a multi-faceted approach toward improving your appearance. For those who want to look younger or maintain their youth, this often means a combination of a facelift or my minimally invasive Band Aid Facelift and non-surgical procedures like skin tightening, laser treatments, Botox®, and facial fillers. This year, we were excited to add a new filler: Restylane® Lyft. While it’s similar to the Restylane® that so many of my patients use to fill in fine lines and wrinkles around their mouth and nose, this new injection is also able to restore volume to the cheeks to reduce the appearance of the “hollows” that naturally appear with age.
  • Helping patients be their most confident and beautiful selves. While there are many different aspects of cosmetic surgery I enjoy, there’s nothing quite like the joy of seeing a patient who has felt self-conscious for years (or, in some cases, their entire life) and is now thrilled with their results. Giving plastic surgery patients the freedom to enjoy their lives more by taking a burden from their shoulders has been an important part of my more than twenty years as a double board-certified plastic surgeon, and I look forward to continuing to meet and help exceptional patients in 2016.

As you look back over this year, we hope you have as much to feel grateful for as we do.   • Jude’s Hospital for Children – This well-known organization serves children who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses, like cancer and sickle cell disease. By providing these children with free, specialized healthcare, and by continuing to research pediatric illnesses, St. Jude’s Hospital is a much-needed resource in the fight against childhood diseases.
  • Loving Arms Cancer Outreach – For patients who are battling cancer, their needs extend even beyond extensive medical care and affect their lives in emotional, financial, cosmetic, and time-consuming ways. Marietta-based Loving Arms Cancer Outreach serves these patients with a number of much-needed programs, like support groups, financial assistance, educational programs, survivor outreach efforts, and access to prostheses, wigs, scarves, and more.
  • Atlanta Food Bank – Hunger is a problem that affects families and individuals in all areas of metro Atlanta, and the Atlanta Food Bank serves a network of over 600 non-profit organizations in 29 Georgia counties. Since its founding in 1979, the Atlanta Food Bank has grown to serve the community with seven unique programs, including distributing food items to smaller food pantries, delivering prepared food to shelters and soup kitchens, and helping local families and individuals to apply for the benefits they need.
  • Blue Skies Ministries – For families who are dealing with the realities of pediatric cancer, the illness can take over every area of their lives. Founded by a mother who has been in their shoes, Blue Skies Ministries offers families a beach retreat where they can take a break, reconnect together, and restore their hope for the future.

For patients who have decided to pursue plastic surgery, finding the best procedure for their specific needs can turn out to be more complicated than they had initially thought, considering just how many options they have to choose from. Not only are different procedures designed to focus on different areas of the body or the face, but some surgeries are more extensive than others, and some treatments aren’t even surgeries at all. As the double board-certified plastic surgeon who developed Band Aid plastic surgery, Dr. John LeRoy has received many questions about these unique minimally-invasive procedures, especially those which address signs of facial aging. To help all patients to better understand their cosmetic options, Dr. LeRoy is answering some of the most common questions about Band Aid procedures.

Atlanta plastic surgeryWhat’s the difference between a Band Aid plastic surgery and a more traditional plastic surgery?

My Band Aid procedures are minimally-invasive versions of more traditional cosmetic surgeries. This means that they provide more subtle, natural-looking results as needed with less recovery time and less scarring than other procedures. Band Aid plastic surgeries are performed in-office with gentle numbing rather than with general anesthesia, lowering many of the risks that a typical surgery carries as well.

What Band Aid procedures do you offer?

As a plastic surgeon who specializes in facial procedures, I developed the Band Aid Facelift nearly 20 years ago, and have since added Band Aid Eyelid Surgery, and Band Aid Brow Lift to minimize signs of facial aging. I also offer non-surgical Band Aid procedures, like Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing and Band Aid Skin Tightening, as well as Band Aid plastic surgeries which can improve other areas of the body, such as the Band Aid Tummy Tuck, Band Aid Arm Lift, and Band Aid Liposuction. Choosing the right option for you will depend on the area of your body or your face you would like to improve, as well as your aesthetic goals.

How much does Band Aid plastic surgery cost?

Because one Band Aid procedure is so different from another, the cost depends on the details of your specific surgery. Are the results of Band Aid procedures less permanent than the results of typical plastic surgery?

So, in terms of a facelift or a Band Aid Facelift, for instance, if the patient generally looks ten years younger than they did before their surgery, they won’t always look the same age, but they will always look ten years younger than they otherwise would have (as long as their aging doesn’t progress faster than it did before, as personal genetics, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors are out of our control).

Ask Dr. LeRoy: Is Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing or Band Aid Skin Tightening the Better Option for Me?

atlanta plastic surgeon discountsThroughout my 23 years as a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I’ve seen more and more patients who want to take a different approach to their aging appearance—rather than being unhappy with the signs of aging they see in the mirror until it comes time for a traditional plastic surgery, they choose to address signs of aging as they arise so that they can continue to look their best throughout the years. The good news is that modern medicine allows me to offer numerous options for minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation procedures; the bad news is that this leaves many patients confused and unsure about which option is right for them. To offer some guidance, I’ve broken down two popular non-surgical treatments, Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing and Band Aid Skin Tightening (both of which have special pricing this month), into some simple questions to help patients understand which procedure may be the best fit for their needs.

What are your aesthetic goals?

In general terms, both Band Aid Skin Tightening and Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing address signs of aging. However, they approach this goal in two different ways. For patients who want to minimize wrinkles as well as age spots, acne scars, and other pigmentation concerns, Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing can improve all of these issues at once. Band Aid Skin Tightening, on the other hand, focuses solely on the firmness and texture of the skin and does not affect the surface skin, so this treatment is a better option for patients who are more concerned about lax skin and wrinkles than skin spots.

How much downtime does your schedule allow for cosmetic procedures?

Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing and Band Aid Skin Tightening are both non-surgical procedures, so they both require less recovery time than even minimally-invasive surgeries like the Band Aid Facelift. However, Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing does use tiny columns of laser light to perforate the skin and activate the body’s natural healing process, so a minimal amount of recovery time is usually needed. Band Aid Skin Tightening, on the other hand, typically requires no downtime because the procedure uses precisely controlled heat energy that targets the deeper layers of the skin, so most patients can go right back to their daily activity after their treatment is finished.

Can you fit multiple treatments into your schedule, or do you need to limit your procedure to one session?

Band Aid Skin Tightening increases the skin’s collagen production in a particularly gentle, gradual way, making it a comfortable treatment for patients. As a result, patients generally see optimal results after a series of five strategically-timed sessions. While the results of Band Aid Laser Skin Resurfacing also develop gradually as the new collagen continues to form, the full results are achieved with one treatment.
