Tips on Sleeping After Cosmetic Breast Surgery

It might seem like a simple task but sleeping after a breast augmentation can be tough and frustrating for some patients. Because surgery sites need to be protected during the healing process, the way in which you sleep after a cosmetic surgery is very important to a successful recovery. In the office of John L. Tips on Sleeping After Cosmetic Breast SurgeryHelp with Adjusting Your Sleeping Position

The position that your body is placed for the duration of the night can affect cosmetic results from your cosmetic breast surgery.  Your recovery time is intended to relieve the swelling, bruising, and numbness in the breasts and/or nipples. Without a safe sleeping position, the healing process can be slower or in some cases significantly disrupted. The following is a list of helpful reminders for how to position yourself to sleep without harming your cosmetic outcome:

  • Keep arms at side
  • Lie down on your back
  • Use pillows on your sides to keep yourself from shifting
  • Sleep at a reclined angle

Depending on the type of cosmetic breast surgery you have, Dr. LeRoy will recommend a specific amount of time to modify your sleeping position. There are different recovery protocols for breast lifts, reductions and augmentations. Additionally, each patient has a different natural recovery rate from cosmetic plastic surgery.

Controlling Your Environment  

Your recovery environment should be set up to make you as comfortable and relaxed as possible. After your surgery, you will be given a compression bra to wear for at least weeks or until you’re advised otherwise. This bra keeps your breasts secure and can reduce the amount of pain during movement.

Many patients also notice an improvement in discomfort and swelling when they gently apply ice packs to their breasts. There are great options for non-leaking ice packs at most local pharmacies.

Don’t Skimp on Your Rest

After your cosmetic breast surgery, Dr. LeRoy will advise you about how many days you should refrain from lifting, bending or straining. The instructions that you’ll receive are to be taken very seriously to avoid the risk of injury and delayed recovery. Plastic Surgeon, Dr. LeRoy Hosts Fall 2018 Charity Contest

If you’ve been a plastic surgery patient or a social media follower of mine for a while, then you’re probably familiar with the quarterly contest that I run for local charity organizations. Once every season of the year, I host a social media charity contest that donates $1000 to one local charity that hasn’t previously won. Since many of my social media followers are members of the community, I like to ask for their input about which organization we should focus our resources on. We will pick the category of donation, but the specific entities who will receive the money are entirely dependent upon your vote. Over the years, we’ve helped some fantastic groups continue to make the community a better place. The nominations for this year will be within the category of animal shelters and rescue.

Plastic Surgeon, Dr. LeRoy Hosts Fall 2018 Charity Contest

The Charity Contest Details Include:

Each of our social media charity contests have two separate phases. The first phase is the nomination process. During our nomination process, we’ll make a post on September 28th, 2018 that asks for recommendations on which local charity to select under the animal shelters and rescue category. For three weeks on the John L. LeRoy Facebook page, followers will nominate the animal shelter or rescue organization of their choice by commenting with their selection. Participants must only nominate an organization once and all previous winners will be omitted from the contest. To give each contender a fair chance, anyone who nominates more than once will be disqualified. The top four most popular nominations will become the finalists.

Once the finalists are chosen, the voting phase of the charity contest begins. During our voting process, Facebook followers will then vote between the four finalists and the winner with the most votes will receive the $1000 donation. The winner will be announced on October 26th, 2018.

Decades ago, I decided to become a double board-certified plastic surgeon with the goal of helping people. This motivation has not changed for me.
