Eyelid Surgery vs. Brow Lift: What’s the Difference?
As we age, our skin will undergo a number of changes. From wrinkles to age spots to sagging skin, the signs of aging show themselves in a multitude of ways. I see a number of patients who experience aging throughout the upper third of their faces and get questions about how they can treat sagging skin, drooping eyelids and forehead lines. For these types of issues, it is common to discuss options such as eyelid surgery or brow lift. However, these two procedures share a number of differences and knowing how they vary is vital.
While it is commonly believed that brow lifts can improve the look of the eyelids, that isn’t always the case. A brow lift focuses on improving brow placement as well as the appearance of forehead wrinkles. For patients looking to specifically target these areas of concern, a brow lift may be the best option.
On the flip side, many patients who are dealing with droopy eyelids and sagging skin below the eyebrows tend to benefit more from eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty. This procedure removes excess skin from around the eyes which results in a younger, more rested and cheerful appearance.
In the video below, I explain more about the recommendations I offer to patients considering these procedures.
The key to getting great results is knowing what procedure is best for you. Having a double board-certified plastic surgeon you trust to guide you through the process is essential in identifying the perfect plan for your needs. The Profound Emotional Impact of Undergoing Plastic Surgery
Undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure can have many potential benefits. The aesthetic benefits are obvious. By removing unwanted fat or skin, improving skin tone, or providing other cosmetic alterations, plastic surgery can significantly improve a person’s appearance. In some cases, cosmetic procedures like tummy tuck surgery or breast reduction can also provide additional health benefits too. However, one thing that I always try to help my patients understand is the profound emotional impact that undergoing a plastic surgery procedure can sometimes provide.
It’s a fact that there is a connection between looking good and feeling good. Self-confidence is a critical component of a person’s emotional health and wellbeing. After decades of performing cosmetic procedures, I have seen firsthand the boost in self-esteem that the results of a cosmetic procedure can provide. It’s understandable that nobody wants to look old, especially younger people who experience visible signs of aging well before their time. I perform many procedures including my signature Band Aid Mini Facelift that are intended to provide fantastic anti-aging results as you age and a boost in youthful vitality.
In the following video, I discuss the many ways that plastic surgery procedures can impact the lives of my patients:

Why I Recommend Liposuction to Help Treat the “Double Chin”
The appearance of a “double chin” is an all too familiar aesthetic concern for many adults. Over the years, it’s natural for submental fat to begin to accumulate in your neck and lower face, impacting your overall appearance. This excess fat can be virtually impossible to shed with just healthy lifestyle habits like diet and exercise. This is why cosmetic procedures to treat the double chin are so consistently in-demand.
I hear from many patients who are not sure whether they should have this fat removed surgically with liposuction or if they would be better off pursuing a non-surgical fat reduction treatment. And while non-surgical treatments can have their advantages in some instances, for me there is no substitute for liposuction if you are concerned with effectively removing fat from this area. That’s because liposuction eliminates the need for additional treatment sessions or follow-ups following the initial procedure.
In the video below, I discuss how liposuction can help patients safely remove this unwanted fat and why I typically recommend it over non-surgical fat reduction alternatives:
For patients who are good candidates for this procedure, rejuvenating the neck contour with liposuction can significantly improve their overall appearance and self-esteem. Plastic Surgery is In-Demand with American Seniors
We’ve all heard the phrase “age is just a number.” And while it may seem cliched to some, recent years have shown that it is certainly true in the world of cosmetic surgery. According to the recent annual statistical report collected by The Aesthetic Society, cosmetic procedures are on the rise among American seniors. In fact, people aged 65 and up accounted for 10% of all cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the US last year. I thought it might be interesting to dig into these numbers and discuss what accounts for this trend and what specific procedures are most popular among patients in this age group.
The simplest explanation is also the most obvious: everyone wants to look their best and cosmetic surgery can provide safe and proven methods for helping patients of all ages improve their appearance. It’s only natural for prospective patients in this age range to experience more visible signs of aging like loose skin, excess fat, and wrinkling. Additionally, as technology has progressed, surgical techniques and anesthesia (or other sedation methods) have become safer for relatively older patients who may have felt uneasy about undergoing a cosmetic procedure in the past.
Unlike other age groups more focused on body contouring, American seniors seemed most intent on undergoing procedures for the face. According to The Aesthetic Society annual report that I previously referenced, eyelid surgery was the most common cosmetic surgery procedure among patients 65 and up last year. Over 27,000 eyelid surgery procedures were performed on patients in this age bracket. The next most in-demand cosmetic surgery procedures among seniors were facelifts, liposuction, neck lifts, and brow lifts. Non-surgical injectable treatments including Botox® injections and facial fillers were also very popular among these patients.
Patient safety is something that my medical team and I always take very seriously to ensure each patient has the best possible experience with their cosmetic procedure. This has only taken on more importance in the wake of COVID-19. I take considerable time during pre-surgery consultations to ensure that every patient, regardless of their age, is healthy enough physically and mentally to undergo the cosmetic procedure that they are pursuing. In my personal experience, a patient’s health is a far greater indication of their ability to undergo cosmetic surgery than their age.
The most important step for any plastic surgery patient to take is finding an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to perform their procedure.
