We all have to admit that there is usually that one thing we wish we could change about our appearances–it’s that cosmetic issue we just can’t help but notice when we look in the mirror or study a photograph of ourselves. I’ve deemed the term a “Waldo” because often, that one thing is totally imperceptible to the people around you until you point it out like that little man in the blue pants and red striped shirt from the children’s books.
My job as an Atlanta plastic and cosmetic surgeon is to maintain that objective point of view that hears the patient’s concerns and balances that against the physical symptoms of said concerns. I thought of this Waldo phenomenon when I read an article published in May by the Association for Psychological Science. The article cited research from St. Louis’ Washington University in which participants were analyzed and found that the perception other’s offered about them was more physically accurate than what they observed through self judgment.
The Band Aid Facelift is a minimally invasive version of a traditional facelift. Many of my patients were interested in the advantages of facelift surgery, but the longer recovery time and risk of more visible incisions made patients wary. Upon the development of my “mini” facelift technique, I coined the name “Band Aid” because the nature of this technique doesn’t require surgical dressings like the traditional facelift.
What’s the difference between a Band Aid Facelift and a “mini” facelift?
My original Band Aid Facelift falls into the same category as a “mini” facelift, although it’s not identical. While most “mini” procedures produce smaller scars and subtle results, the techniques I use in my Band Aid Facelift produce noticeable, natural looking facial rejuvenation to your areas of concern while only requiring an office visit and gentle numbing.
How do I know if I need a traditional facelift or a Band Aid Facelift?
The need for a traditional or Band Aid Facelift is determined by the significance of your signs of aging. Patients with minimal signs of aging typically prefer the Band Aid version because it addresses only the area that are starting to show aging whereas patients with more advanced wrinkling typically obtain the results they’re after with a traditional facelift, but patients with significant signs of aging are also very satisfied with the traditional facelift.
Looking at someone’s eyes can usually give you an accurate prediction of their age, unless of course you’re looking into the eyes of one of my blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) patients. With age, the eyelids begin to wrinkle and droop: producing a tired, matured appearance. Blepharoplasty can enhance the eyes by removing the excess skin and tissue contributing to an aged look.
During a traditional blepharoplasty procedure, I remove the excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids depending on the patient’s needs. Some patients have a hooded appearance due to sagging upper eyelids that warrants an upper lid blepharoplasty. Other patients only need a lower lid blepharoplasty to get rid of fat pockets and wrinkles on their lower eyelids, but when necessary I perform a dual procedure to remedy both effects.
It sounds like there are quite a few options for eyelid rejuvenation already, doesn’t it? However, I also perform Band Aid Blepharoplasty. Just like the rest of my Band Aid procedures (Band Aid Liposuction, Band Aid Tummy Tuck, Band Aid Brow Lift, and Band Aid Facelift), the Band Aid Blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive version of the traditional blepharoplasty that is performed right in my office with gentle numbing (local anesthesia). Band Aid Eyelid Surgery is well-suited for patients whose appearance doesn’t quite warrant the traditional blepharoplasty procedure.
Did you know that an aged eye appearance can be caused by wrinkles and sagging skin of the brow too? I often see patients for a blepharoplasty consultation only to conclude that their areas of concern actually call for a brow lift or Band Aid Brow Lift. A brow lift removes the excess sagging and drooping skin of the forehead to lift the eyebrows and give the eyes a more youthful appearance.
If you’re concerned with the look of your eyes, but still aren’t sure which one of these facial rejuvenation procedures will produce the results you’re looking for, schedule a consultation so I can help determine the right procedure for you.
